At the Connemara Chamber AGM, outgoing President John Sweeney was presented with a specially commissioned award in recognition of his significant contribution to the Chamber, the wider community, and his leadership of the Win A Home in Clifden campaign.
The unique award was handcrafted at ATU Connemara from storm-felled Kylemore timber and mounted on a base of Connemara marble from Joyce’s Marble Quarries. Inspired by the legacy of Connemara West, it symbolises the region’s enduring tradition of community development and enterprise.
During John’s five years as President, the Chamber has achieved significant milestones, including the purchase of The Kirk, the establishment of a permanent Chamber office, the appointment of a CEO, a stronger financial footing, and advocacy on key issues such as rural planning and the future of the Connemara Pony Show.
While John is stepping down as President, we’re delighted that he will continue to serve on the Chamber Board, where his experience and commitment will remain an invaluable asset. As Simon Ashe steps into the role of President, the Chamber looks forward to building on the strong foundations established during John’s tenure.
