Clifden & Connemara to Celebrate 20 years since the historic re-enactment of Alcock and Brown’s epic flight
Clifden, Co. Galway – In July 2005, Mark Rebholz and Steve Fossett made history by retracing the legendary path of Alcock and Brown, completing a transatlantic flight from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Clifden, Connemara, Co. Galway. Flying a faithful replica of the original 1919 Vickers Vimy, the duo paid homage to the aviation pioneers who achieved the first ever non‑stop transatlantic flight. On Saturday, 5th July 2025, Clifden and Connemara will mark the 20th anniversary of that remarkable re‑enactment. The celebrations will welcome Mark Rebholz back to Clifden for a special day of free events honouring this historic feat and the people who made it possible. Highlights of the day include: 1.00pm – Unveiling of a Commemorative Plaque by Mark Rebholz, Clifden Town Square 4.00pm – An Audience with Mark Rebholz, Station House Theatre, Clifden 6.00pm – Screening of Alcock and Brown: The True Story, a documentary by Kevin Glynn This event is organised by the Connemara Chamber of Commerce, which was also involved in welcoming the aviators back in 2005. The commemorations will provide an opportunity for the community and visitors alike to learn more about the historic transatlantic crossings and the role Clifden has played in this remarkable […]

Statement: Full steam ahead for the Connemara Pony Show (Clifden) 2025 after a joint agreement.
Agreed Statement – 15th January 2025 Full steam ahead for the Connemara Pony Show (Clifden) 2025 after a joint agreement. In its centenary year, the annual Connemara Pony Show at Clifden is now set for its most exciting event ever. Over the past few months, detailed discussions have been ongoing between the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society and a newly formed and independent Show Management entity on a potential path forward for the much loved Connemara Pony Show at Clifden. On the 12th of January, an agreement in principle was reached between both entities on how the Show (and related events) will be run and supported for an initial period of 3 years, starting in 2025. At the recent AGM of the Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society, a proposal from the new entity for the transition and management of the Clifden show was outlined by the CPBS Executive Committee to the CPBS membership. The proposal was adopted by the membership and thereafter ratified by the newly elected CPBS Council. The new independent show entity, known as ‘Connemara Pony Show – Clifden’ has a board of trustees composed of representatives from Connemara Chamber of Commerce, equine representatives, local political representatives, and […]
